Salato Wildlife Education Center, run by Kentucky's fish and wildlife agency, introduces native animals and habitats just outside Frankfort. Exhibits may include species such as elk, bison, bears, birds of prey, and reptiles, presented with an emphasis on conservation rather than spectacle.
It is a strong family stop and a useful change of pace from Frankfort's capitol buildings and bourbon history. Check seasonal hours before going, then allow time for both indoor exhibits and the outdoor paths; the centre works best when you take it slowly.
