Hancock Shaker Village

Hancock Shaker Village preserves a former Shaker community just west of Pittsfield. The site includes historic buildings, gardens, craft demonstrations, farm animals, and the famous round stone barn, all set against a broad Berkshire landscape.

It is one of the region's best places to understand religious experiment, communal work, and design in one visit. Give it more time than you think; the calm is part of the experience.

A story
The Shakers believed order and beauty were forms of devotion, which is why even ordinary objects at Hancock can feel startlingly modern. Their round stone barn is both a practical farm building and one of the most elegant pieces of rural architecture in New England.
