Pontoosuc Lake stretches along the northern edge of Pittsfield and into Lanesborough, with open water, boat traffic, and views toward the surrounding hills. It is a good choice if you want the lake-country side of the Berkshires without driving far.
The shore is partly developed, so do not expect solitude. Come for paddling, fishing, or a relaxed scenic detour before heading toward Mount Greylock.
