Sphere

366-foot LED orb on Sands Avenue, opened 2023

Address 255 Sands Avenue

The Sphere opened just east of the Strip in 2023 and instantly became the most recognisable building in the city. The exterior is a fully programmable 366-foot LED orb; you can watch it from anywhere in the eastern Strip — pink jellyfish one minute, a giant blinking eye the next, the Earth seen from space the third. Outside, the show is free and goes 24/7.

Inside, the venue hosts immersive films and concert residencies on a wraparound 16K screen that fills your entire field of view. The opening Darren Aronofsky film "Postcard from Earth" runs as the standard offering between concert dates. Tickets are not cheap, and the seats nearest the back rim of the bowl are the best for taking in the full screen — front rows feel like sitting under a waterfall.

A story
The exterior LED display covers 580,000 square feet — the largest in the world — and the building cost over $2.3 billion to construct. Its first U2 residency in 2023 sold out before the venue had hosted a single rehearsal.
