Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign

1959 neon icon at the south end of the Strip

Address 5100 Las Vegas Blvd South

The diamond-shaped neon sign greeting arrivals from the south end of the Strip is one of the most photographed objects in Nevada. Designed by Betty Willis in 1959, the sign sits on a small median in front of a dedicated parking lot — yes, the city built a parking lot just so tourists could safely stop for a photo. The back reads "Drive Carefully, Come Back Soon," which is rarely photographed but charming once you know.

The best time is morning or just before sunset; the desert sun bleaches everything out at midday. Free to visit, and you can drive yourself in or take a Strip shuttle that stops nearby. There is no fee, no queue marshal, just a steady rotation of visitors snapping pictures.

A story
Designer Betty Willis never copyrighted the sign — she considered it a gift to the city, which is why it appears on every souvenir mug in town. The sign has stood since 1959 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.
