Skiing, snowboarding, gambling, kayaking through downtown in the Truckee River whitewater park, watching the sunset turn the Sierra Nevada pink — there is plenty to do in Reno.
The big casino blocks downtown — The Row (Eldorado, Silver Legacy, Circus Circus), Harrah's, and the Whitney Peak — are within easy walking distance of each other on Virginia Street and Second Street. When you want a break from the tables, the National Automobile Museum is one of the great car museums anywhere, the Nevada Museum of Art is a serious surprise in this city, and the Truckee River runs straight through downtown with a whitewater park you can kayak or tube. North of town, the Wilbur D. May Museum is a wonderfully eccentric one-man curiosities collection. For a half-day in the Sierra, the Hunter Creek Falls trail starts in suburban west Reno.
