Norman

Central Oklahoma university town dominated by the University of Oklahoma and notable campus museums.

Norman is a university town of about 125,000 people in central Oklahoma, 30 kilometres south of Oklahoma City. The University of Oklahoma dominates the city's identity — the campus is beautiful, the football culture is intense, and the OU Sooners have a passionate following that turns Norman into a different place on home game days.

Beyond football, Norman has a genuine arts scene. The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art on campus holds a strong collection of French Impressionist and Native American art. The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History is one of the best natural history museums in the American South, with impressive dinosaur exhibits and an extensive collection of Oklahoma's Indigenous heritage. Actor James Garner, singer Vince Gill, and radio astronomy pioneer Karl Jansky all came from Norman.
