Warr Acres

Small Oklahoma City suburb along Route 66, incorporated as its own residential community.

Warr Acres is a small city enclosed within the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, sitting along Route 66 in Oklahoma County. It is essentially a suburb, but one with its own identity — a residential community that incorporated in the 1940s to avoid annexation by Oklahoma City. For Route 66 travellers, it is a pass-through point on the historic highway's path through the metro area.

The original alignment of Route 66 runs through Warr Acres along what is now NW 39th Street, and this strip retains some of the character of the old highway with its roadside businesses and motels. Oklahoma City's attractions — the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, the Oklahoma City National Memorial, Bricktown — are all within easy reach a few kilometres east. Warr Acres itself is primarily a place to sleep rather than a destination in its own right.

Things to Do

Warr Acres has no major attractions of its own, but its position on Route 66 and its proximity to Oklahoma City make it a useful base.
