Plaza 25 de Mayo

Resistencia's leafy central square, ringed by major sculptures

Plaza 25 de Mayo is the leafy central square of Resistencia and the natural starting point for a walking tour of the city's sculptures. Around its four blocks stand the provincial government palace, the cathedral, the municipal theatre and the old Casa de Gobierno, all looking onto a shaded square with palms, jacarandas and a half-dozen of the city's best-known works.

Spend an hour here in the cool of the morning before the heat builds. Vendors sell tortas fritas and mate, kids play on the central fountain, and lunch is a short walk in any direction.
