The Estadio Olímpico Patria is Sucre's main football stadium, built in 1944 and seating around 32,000. It is the home ground of Club Universitario de Sucre, the city's first-division side. The stadium sits in the northern part of town, a short trufi or taxi ride from the centre. Bolivia's national team occasionally plays here when matches are scheduled outside the capital — at 2,750 metres altitude, visiting sides usually arrive worried about the air.
For visitors with no interest in football, the stadium and surrounding park are still a pleasant place for a Sunday afternoon walk; vendors set up around the gates and there is a lively scene before match days. Tickets are cheap and easy to buy on the day from the box office.
