Sucre's food scene is modest but pleasant. As a university city it keeps prices low, and Bolivian staples — soups, stews, grilled meat, fresh salteñas in the morning — are easy to find around the market and the main plazas.
Cafe Gourmet El Mirador is worth a visit for the view alone: perched opposite the Recoleta church, it looks out over the white rooftops of the city, and at sunset the light is exceptional (bring a sweater — evenings cool quickly at altitude). The menu covers pastas, drinks, and the house speciality Bomba Vitaminica. Find it at Pasaje Iturricha 297, Mirador de la Recoleta.
