Alcantarí Airport (SRE) opened in 2016, replacing the old Juana Azurduy de Padilla airport closer to the city. It sits about 30 km south of Sucre — a 45-minute taxi ride or a cheap minibus ride from the central plaza. Boliviana de Aviación (BoA) and Amaszonas run daily flights to La Paz, Santa Cruz, and Cochabamba; foreign visitors usually connect via La Paz or Santa Cruz from Lima, Bogotá, São Paulo, or Buenos Aires.
The bus terminal is on Avenida Ostria Gutiérrez, a short taxi ride from the centre. Overnight buses connect Sucre to all major Bolivian cities: Potosí (3 hours), Cochabamba (10 hours), La Paz (14 hours), Santa Cruz (15 hours), and Tarija (14 hours). The Potosí road is paved and scenic; most other long-distance routes are now also asphalted, though landslides during the rainy season can still cause delays.
There is no passenger train service to Sucre at the moment, though the historic Ferrocarril Andino line still runs freight on parts of the route.
