Castillo de Salgar is a small nineteenth-century fort on the coast near Puerto Colombia, west of Barranquilla. Its position above the Caribbean is the main reason to come: the building frames sea views, surf, and the old maritime approach to the city.
The fort has been restored and used for cultural events, so it feels more like a scenic historic stop than a defensive ruin. It works best as part of a half-day coastal detour from Barranquilla, especially if you are also looking at the beaches and port history.
