The Gran Malecón is Barranquilla's long riverfront promenade along the Magdalena, with playgrounds, restaurants, public art, and wide paths for strolling or cycling. It has given the city a public face on the river that shaped its history as Colombia's great Caribbean port.
Come late in the afternoon, when the heat eases and families fill the walkway. The views are more industrial river mouth than postcard waterfront, which is part of the point.
