Malecón del Río

The riverfront promenade that runs along the western edge of the city beside the Magdalena River. Barranquilla owes its existence to this river — for most of the 19th and early 20th centuries, all trade moving between the interior of Colombia and the outside world passed through here. The Malecón has been renovated into a pleasant walkway with river views, sculptures, and a sense of the city's commercial past. Evening is the best time to come: river breezes cut the heat, vendors appear, and families stroll.
