Public Buildings (Law Courts)

Rare cast-iron colonial parliament on Brickdam canal

The Public Buildings on Brickdam house the Parliament and Law Courts of Guyana, and are among the finest examples of colonial architecture in the Caribbean and South America. Built in 1829 of cast iron shipped from England, the building is a rarity in Georgetown — most of the city's colonial structures are wooden. The white-painted facade fronts the city's main canal and is best seen from across the water.
