Day Trips

The classic Georgetown day trip is the flight to Kaieteur Falls — leaving the city after breakfast, landing in the rainforest interior, walking to the top of the falls, and returning by mid-afternoon. It costs around US$280 per person and is one of the great single-day experiences in South America.

Closer to the city, Bartica on the Essequibo River makes a long day out for those interested in seeing the gold-mining frontier, and the small island resort of Baganara offers swimming and lunch in the river. Linden, the bauxite-mining town an hour and a half inland, is more of an industrial curiosity than a destination, but the road there passes through pleasant savanna country.
