Georgetown's colonial architecture is its greatest asset — a city of wooden Victorian buildings, Gothic churches, and broad canal-lined boulevards that survived fire and flood and still stand in various states of magnificent decay. The main cluster of sights is compact and walkable in half a day; the Botanic Gardens deserve a separate afternoon.
