Georgetown is warm and humid year-round, with temperatures sitting between 25 and 32°C. There are two wet seasons — May to early August and late November to January — and two drier ones in between. The city handles rain better than the interior, but heavy showers can flood streets and slow taxi traffic.
The best months are February to April and September to October, when rain is least likely and the seawall promenade is most pleasant in the evening. Mashramani, Guyana's exuberant Republic Day celebration on 23 February, is a brilliant time to visit — costume parades, music, and street parties take over central Georgetown.
The other event to plan around is Diwali, in October or November. Lit lamps, illuminated floats, and shared sweets transform the Indo-Guyanese neighbourhoods. Phagwah (Holi) in March brings clouds of coloured powder to the streets. Outside the major festivals, weekday Georgetown is quiet and walkable, especially in the morning before the heat builds.
