Pukapukara

Pukapukara is an Inca archaeological site on the road above Cuzco, often visited with Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, and Tambomachay. Its name is usually translated as "red fortress", after the colour the stone can take in the light.

The site may have served as a checkpoint, military post, or stopping place on the route into the city. It is larger than Qenqo and rewards a slower look, especially for the views back toward Cuzco.
