Former Casa del Fascio

A monumental Rationalist building from 1940, originally built as the local headquarters of the Italian Fascist party — the Casa del Fascio. It is one of the largest single colonial-era buildings in the city, with a long facade of square pillars and a vast central hall.

After independence the building was repurposed for government use. It is not open to visitors, but the exterior on the side of Bahti Meskerem Square gives a very direct sense of late Italian Rationalism translated to a colonial capital.
