The House of Venus is one of the better-known private houses at Volubilis, mainly because of its mosaics. The famous Venus mosaic was removed long ago, but other panels remain associated with the house, including mythological scenes that give a glimpse of the taste and wealth of Roman-period Volubilis.
It rewards a bit of patience. The outlines of the rooms are not dramatic from a distance, but if you slow down and read the mosaics as household decoration rather than museum pieces, the house becomes one of the easiest places on the site to imagine daily life.
