Guembeul Wildlife Reserve protects dry coastal habitat south of Saint-Louis and is used for breeding and reintroduction programs for species such as scimitar-horned oryx, addax, dama gazelle, and African spurred tortoise. Birdlife is also strong, making it a worthwhile wildlife detour from the city.
