Jakar is a base for exploring the temples and monasteries of the Bumthang valley, the spiritual heartland of Bhutan. Most sights are within walking or short driving distance of town, scattered across the valley floor and the surrounding hillsides. Festivals here are smaller and more intimate than in Thimphu or Paro, and the valley is also good walking country.
