Kandal Village

Kandal Village is a creative quarter that grew up in the streets east of the Old Market and south of the Siem Reap River — roughly the area around Street 9 and Hap Guan Street. The name refers to both a specific street cluster and a loosely defined district that has attracted independent boutiques, design shops, concept stores, and some of the best casual cafes in the city. It is the part of Siem Reap most favoured by the city's small expat creative community and by visitors who want good coffee and interesting shopping without the Pub Street pressure.

The cluster is compact enough to walk in 30 minutes: look for Saomao concept store, Trunkh independent fashion, and several galleries and ceramic studios. The coffee culture here is notably better than in the tourist centre — proper Cambodian single-origin coffee rather than mass-market beans. Good for an afternoon when temple fatigue has set in and you want quiet streets and a flat white.
