MGC Asian Traditional Textiles Museum

The MGC Asian Traditional Textiles Museum on the road to Angkor is a genuinely worthwhile specialist museum, covering the textile traditions of India, China, and Southeast Asia. The collection focuses on the Mekong-Ganga corridor — the ancient cultural highway between the Indian subcontinent and the great river civilisations of Southeast Asia — with particular attention to how weaving traditions, dye techniques, and symbolic patterns travelled and transformed along this route. Khmer silk, Indian ikat, and various regional textiles are displayed alongside explanatory materials on production methods.

The museum occupies a purpose-built building with good air conditioning and clear labelling. It is never crowded and makes a thoughtful counterpoint to the overwhelming stone and stone carvings of the main Angkor circuit. If you have any interest in craft traditions, textile history, or the cultural connections between South and Southeast Asia, allow an hour here.
