Preah Ang Chek Preah Ang Chorm Shrine

The Preah Ang Chek Preah Ang Chorm Shrine is a small but locally important religious site near the centre of Siem Reap, housed in a simple pavilion beside a pond. Two gilded standing Buddha figures — Preah Ang Chek and Preah Ang Chorm — are among the most revered in Cambodia, drawing a constant stream of local worshippers who come to pray, leave offerings of incense and flowers, and tie white strings around their wrists as blessings. The atmosphere is genuinely devotional rather than tourist-oriented.

The shrine survived the Khmer Rouge period intact, largely because it was hidden or protected by local communities, and it functions today as an active place of worship for Siem Reap's residents. Visiting during a public holiday or Buddhist festival — Khmer New Year in April, Pchum Ben in September/October — reveals the depth of popular attachment to the site. Dress respectfully, move quietly, and leave the worshippers to their prayers.
