The Wat Bo neighbourhood on the east side of the Siem Reap River is the quieter, more residential counterpart to the Pub Street quarter. Named after one of Siem Reap's oldest wats, which sits at its centre, the area has become home to a cluster of boutique hotels in traditional wooden houses, independent restaurants, and cafes that cater to longer-stay visitors. Wat Bo Road itself runs north-south through the neighbourhood and is lined with businesses that tend to be slightly less tourist-facing than those on the west bank.
The neighbourhood is best explored on bicycle: streets are wide enough to be comfortable and there is less traffic than near the Old Market. The wat itself is worth a visit for its well-preserved interior murals depicting scenes from the Ramayana, painted during the 19th century.
