The Preah Norodom Sihanouk-Angkor Museum is a newer addition to Siem Reap's cultural infrastructure, located near the Angkor ticket centre on the road from town. Named after Cambodia's most iconic post-independence leader, the museum focuses on the Angkor civilisation with a collection that complements rather than duplicates the Angkor National Museum in town. The emphasis is on the social and cultural history of the Khmer Empire — how people lived, worked, and worshipped — alongside display of artefacts from archaeological excavations in the wider Siem Reap region.
The building itself is worth seeing: designed to reference Khmer architectural forms, it sits in well-tended grounds and makes a pleasant stop before or after visiting the main temples. It is consistently less crowded than the Angkor National Museum. The explanatory texts are in Khmer, English, and French.
