Dashu Mountain is Hefei's main urban escape, a forested hill on the western side of the city and one of the few places where the flat provincial capital gains real height. The mountain is an extinct volcanic cone, modest by Chinese mountain standards but high enough for city views and a proper climb.
Paths run through Dashushan National Forest Park to the summit area, with locals coming for exercise, shade, and weekend air. It is best in the morning or late afternoon. Pair it with nearby parks or the botanical garden if you want a half-day away from Hefei's traffic.
