Hohhot has a lively student bar scene centered around the university districts in the east of the city, and a more sedate cafe culture scattered through the commercial centre. The city is large enough to support a range of nightlife options, from Mongolian cultural performances with accompanying airag (fermented mare's milk) to standard Chinese KTV establishments. The university area around Inner Mongolia Normal University on Xinchengxi Street has the highest concentration of inexpensive bars and cafes.
