Things to Do

Hohhot's sights concentrate in two areas: the old town quarter around Dazhao Temple, where Buddhist lamaseries, the Great Mosque, and surviving Qing-era streets form a coherent historic district; and the broader city, which contains the Inner Mongolia Museum, several parks, and the infrastructure for grassland trips. The city's Mongolian character is genuine rather than staged — the lamaseries are active, the Mongolian script appears on every metro sign, and the daily food culture reflects a pastoral heritage that is still present and alive.
