Nanjing Performing Arts Center

The Nanjing Performing Arts Center (南京保利大剧院) is the city's main venue for classical music, opera, and theatre. The programme includes visiting international orchestras, major Chinese opera productions, and dance performances. The building is a contemporary design on the south bank of the Yangtze.

Kunqu opera, which originated in nearby Suzhou and Nanjing, is one of China's oldest musical theatre traditions and UNESCO-listed intangible heritage. Nanjing has active Kunqu companies and occasional traditional performances are scheduled at the performing arts centre and at heritage venues in the old city. Check local event listings on arrival.
