Yuejiang Tower stands on Lion Hill above the Yangtze, in the northwestern part of Nanjing. The tower itself is modern, built in a Ming revival style, but the setting gives it a strong reason to exist: from the upper levels you get one of the city's clearest views of the river, the bridge, and the old defensive landscape around the hill.
It is best treated as a viewpoint with historical dressing rather than an ancient survival. The climb and surrounding scenic area make a good half-day when paired with nearby city-wall sections or riverfront sights. Go when visibility is decent; haze can turn the main attraction into a grey blur.
