Wenmiao Confucian Temple

Changchun's Confucian Temple (Wenmiao) is a Qing-dynasty foundation serving the city's traditional scholarly and ceremonial life. The temple follows the standard Confucian complex layout with a main hall housing the tablets of Confucius and the canonical sages, flanked by subsidiary halls and a front courtyard planted with traditional trees.

The temple was used as an examination venue under the imperial system and continues as a place of cultural ceremony — the birthday of Confucius (late September) brings ceremonies that include traditional dress and ritual recitation. Outside ceremony dates, the compound is quiet and contemplative in a way that larger tourist temples rarely are. A visit of thirty to forty minutes is comfortable.
