Dabei Monastery is Tianjin's best-known Buddhist monastery, with roots in the Ming and Qing periods and a compound that mixes older halls with rebuilt 20th-century sections. The main halls hold large Buddhist statues, including a tall Sakyamuni figure and a Thousand-hand Guanyin.
The monastery is still active, so it feels different from the nearby commercial bustle of Ancient Culture Street. Visit for the incense, courtyards, and religious atmosphere rather than expecting a museum-like presentation.
