Wind and Lotus at the Crooked Courtyard

Classic West Lake lotus-viewing scene, best in summer around Quyuan Fenghe’s ponds and paths

Wind and Lotus at the Crooked Courtyard, usually called Quyuan Fenghe, is one of the traditional Ten Scenes of West Lake. In summer the ponds fill with lotus leaves and flowers, turning this corner of the lake into something slower and more intimate than the big causeway views.

It is worth timing for the season if you can, but the area is pleasant even outside peak bloom. Paths, water, bridges, and shaded edges make it a good pause between Yue Fei Temple, the Su Causeway, and the northern side of West Lake.
