Futala Lake

Futala Lake on Nagpur's western edge is the city's liveliest outdoor gathering place after dark. The lake is surrounded by a broad promenade lined with food stalls selling chaat, bhel puri, and local snacks, and the nightly musical fountain show — coloured lights playing over jets of water set to music — draws large crowds of families and couples.

During the day the lake is quieter, used mainly by morning walkers and people taking boats out on the water. The surrounding area has been developed with small gardens and seating. Futala is one of those quintessentially Indian public spaces where the evening air is thick with the smell of street food and the sound of Hindi film music. Take an auto-rickshaw from anywhere in the city centre.
