Nagpur Central Museum

The Nagpur Central Museum — known locally as Ajab Bangala, meaning "Wonderful Bungalow" — is one of the oldest museums in Maharashtra, occupying a graceful colonial building near the Civil Lines area. The collections span natural history, geology, archaeology, and the history of the Nagpur kingdom. Among the highlights are dinosaur fossils found in the Narmada Valley, exhibits on the Nagpur royal armoury, tribal artefacts from Vidarbha, and a substantial collection of inscriptions and coins from the region's history.

The museum is not large by metropolitan standards, but it is well-maintained and the building alone is worth the visit — a fine example of 19th-century colonial architecture with verandahs, high ceilings, and handsome proportions. The natural history section appeals to children. The museum is closed on Mondays.
