The Great India Place, known to locals as GIP, is the most popular shopping mall in Noida and one of the most-visited malls in north India. Opened in 2007, the vast complex has more than 250 stores spread over four levels, anchored by a multiplex cinema, a food court of more than 30 restaurants, and a children's entertainment zone connected to the adjoining Worlds of Wonder amusement park.
The architecture is unremarkable — a standard 21st-century mall on a generous scale — but the place gives a useful read on contemporary Indian middle-class life. Weekends are extremely busy. The mall is directly above Noida Sector 18 metro station, so you can step off the train and into the air-conditioning. Useful as a refuge from Delhi heat or pollution.
