Noida (New Okhla Industrial Development Authority) is a planned city in Uttar Pradesh, sitting just across the Yamuna River from Delhi. It has grown from an industrial township into one of the largest business and IT hubs in the Delhi National Capital Region, with a forest of glass-and-steel towers rising from what was farmland a few decades ago. Most major Hindi-language television channels broadcast from Noida Film City in Sector 16A.
For travellers, Noida is not a destination in itself — it is primarily a place people live and work. But if you find yourself here, the Okhla Bird Sanctuary on the Yamuna floodplain attracts migratory species in winter, the colossal red sandstone memorial of the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal is unlike anything else in India, and the sprawling malls of Sector 18 offer every modern amenity. The Delhi Metro's Blue Line connects Noida to central Delhi in about 45 minutes, making it easy to use as a base if hotel rates in the capital are high.
