Museum De Javasche Bank

Banking museum inside Surabaya's handsome former De Javasche Bank branch.

Museum De Javasche Bank occupies a colonial-era bank building in old Surabaya, where finance, port trade, and empire once met. The displays cover money and banking history, but the building itself is half the reason to come: tiled floors, heavy doors, and the formal architecture of a serious institution.

It fits neatly into a walk around Jembatan Merah, the old commercial quarter, and House of Sampoerna. Even if currency exhibits are not usually your thing, this is a good stop for understanding how Surabaya's port wealth was organised and controlled.
