The best beaches on Batam are concentrated along the Nongsa coastline in the island's northeast, where several resorts maintain private stretches of sand facing Singapore across the Strait. The water is calm and clear compared to the industrial coast near Nagoya. Turi Beach Resort and Nongsa Point Marina Resort are the main anchors here, both offering day-pass arrangements that give access to their beach facilities, pool, and water sports equipment.
The northern peninsula feels a world apart from the rest of Batam — greener, quieter, with mangroves and small fishing kampungs interspersed between the resorts. Parasailing, banana boating, and snorkelling are available from the resort beaches; kayaks can usually be rented for exploring the shoreline on calmer mornings. If you are after a proper beach day and day-trip ferry from Singapore, head here rather than anywhere near Nagoya.
