Holy Kazan Cathedral is a colourful Russian Orthodox church in Almaty, set away from the usual central tourist loop. Its painted domes, icons, and active parish life make it a quieter counterpart to the more famous Zenkov Cathedral in Panfilov Park.
It is not essential for a first short visit, but it is a worthwhile detour if you are tracing Almaty's religious architecture or staying in the eastern districts. As with any working church, go modestly, avoid interrupting services, and keep photography discreet.
