St Nicholas Cathedral is one of Almaty's active Russian Orthodox landmarks, set among trees west of the city centre. Its blue-and-white exterior is modest compared with Zenkov Cathedral, but the interior has the candlelight, icons, and layered devotional atmosphere that make Orthodox churches worth entering quietly.
This is not a museum church, so visit respectfully and avoid service times if you only want to look around. It works best as a secondary stop for travellers interested in Almaty's Russian and Soviet-era religious fabric beyond the better-known Ascension Cathedral.
