The Kazakh Museum of Folk Musical Instruments is one of Almaty's most charming smaller museums, housed in a wooden building in Panfilov Park. Its collection centres on the dombra, kobyz, and other instruments from Kazakh and Central Asian musical traditions.
It is a natural companion to Zenkov Cathedral, which stands nearby in the same park. Even if you are not a musician, the museum gives sound and craft to Kazakhstan's nomadic story: carved wood, horsehair strings, ritual instruments, and the social life of song.
