Expo District

The Expo District grew around the 2017 World's Fair site south of the centre. The central feature is the Nur Alem glass sphere; around it are the former national pavilions, now repurposed as the Astana International Financial Centre, with a growing cluster of bars, cafes, and small art galleries occupying the remodelled pavilion buildings.

The district has a different feel from anywhere else in Astana — younger, more startup-tech in flavour, with English heard more often than elsewhere. It is the most interesting evening destination outside the central axis, with several wine bars, microbrew pubs, and the cluster of restaurants that opened to serve the Expo crowds and stayed. Walkable in an hour or so; reachable by bus or taxi from the centre in 15 minutes.
