Ngwe Saung

Low-key Ayeyarwady beach resort with a long pale shore and walkable offshore islets.

Ngwe Saung is Myanmar's easier-going beach escape from Yangon: a long run of pale sand, a small village at the northern end, and a line of resorts that still feels loose rather than overbuilt. It is less polished than Ngapali and quieter than Chaung Tha, which is exactly the appeal if you want a few slow days by the Bay of Bengal.

The beach is the reason to come, but it is not the only thing to do. At low tide you can walk out to Lover's Island, while small boats run to offshore islands for snorkelling when the sea is calm. The nearby fishing villages and beach tracks are good for short bicycle or motorbike rides.

Ngwe Saung is a rest stop rather than a sightseeing town. Come for swimming, seafood, sunsets, and enough small outings to keep a beach day from going flat.
