Zhong Hua Chinese Buddhist Monastery

A large compound on the west (Mahayana) side of the Monastic Zone, built in classic Ming-dynasty style with red walls, swooping eaves, and a courtyard layout around a central hall. Completed in 2000 with funding from Chinese Buddhists in Singapore and Hong Kong.

The main hall holds three large statues of the Buddha, his attendants, and the eighteen arhats around the walls. The grounds are unusually green and well-kept. The compound also runs a pilgrim guesthouse — basic but welcome rooms at low prices for Buddhist visitors.
