Asia > South Korea > Gumi
Gumi is an industrial city on the Nakdong River, best known inside Korea for electronics factories and the birthplace of Park Chung Hee. That does not sound like an obvious travel pitch, and for most itineraries it is not. The reason to stop is Geumosan Provincial Park, a steep mountain park close to the station with waterfalls, temples, caves, and city views.
The city works as a practical day trip from Daegu or a short stop on a North Gyeongsang route. Geumosan gives it a real outdoor anchor, while Dorisa Temple adds a deeper Buddhist-history reason to look beyond the factory skyline.
Be honest about the trade-off: Gumi is not a polished tourist city. Come if you want a mountain day with easy rail access, an early Silla temple, and a look at a Korean city whose modern identity is more industrial than picturesque.
